Hey guys,

Welcome to the Timeline Show, the official podcast of AllTimelines.com. In this episode, I will be discussing the approach that I’m taking with this podcast, and what franchise I’m going to be starting first.

I’ve been wanting to do a podcast for a long time, but I’ve been struggling to figure out what would work well for my website, as well as be engaging on its own for fans. It also had to be something I could reasonably add to my workload, which is already considerable. Not to brag but in addition to the maintenance of the website, I also write fantasy books (which I’m publishing very soon, and I’ll let you know more about that in the future, I have a website on writing called the Nerdy Novel, which also includes a YouTube channel, and I have a full-time job and a finacé. So you could say that I’m pretty busy these days.

But I think I’ve cracked it. So here’s my plan for this podcast. I thought it would be a great idea to have a show where I binge my way through some of the timelines on my site, going through each individual item one by one and talking about it. I could provide some historical background, my review of the item, and a note on how it fits into the larger story. I was already kind of doing this on my own. I enjoy going through stories chronologically. That’s why I created the site in the first place. It was kind of a resource for myself to start with. I’m glad others have found it useful as well.

I suppose it would be a good idea to introduce my website for those less familiar with it. AllTimelines.com is a resource for fans of various science fiction and fantasy franchises. It lists each of the stories for each timeline in chronological order, though you can also sort by date or title if you want. So I will be picking some of these timelines and discussing them in much more depth on this podcast. I will be using the All Timelines app as my guide, and you can follow along using the app if you wish. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend picking up the app. It’s free for iOS, and we should have an Android version coming out in the next few months. You’ll see on the app that there is a checkbox for each item that allows you to select if you’ve finished reading or watching that particular item. That is what I will be using to follow along, and I suggest you do so as well.

This podcast will be kind of like a book club, except it will include other things besides books. Now, there may be occasions where I’m limited in my access to certain stories. Maybe they’re simply unavailable. Or, for example, it could be a video game only available on a platform that I don’t have access to. In the case of video games, I’ll try to get around that by finding game movies on YouTube and watching those instead. But even if I can’t find one of my stories to read or explore, I will still have an episode discussing it. Because at the very least I can usually find a Wikipedia article about pretty much everything.

And as far as the format of this podcast goes, I tend to be kind of a minimalist. I don’t like to add too many bells and whistles. So most of these episodes will be short, sweet, getting directly to the point, and hopefully frequent. I hope to have at least one episode per week, though I may have a lot more than that if the stories I’m going through don’t take long to read or get through. And while this is not a discussion podcast I’d say it’s a good bet that I will occasionally have someone on to discuss certain topics. But mostly it will just be me talking. And regarding spoilers, while I will try to avoid heavy spoilers, I cannot guarantee that they won’t come up now and then, especially for works of fiction that have been out for a long time. For any new releases I’ll try to avoid talking about spoilers until the end of each episode, so you could skip to that part if you want.

So that brings me to the question, what will be the first timeline that I choose to cover? Well, I was going to do the Star Wars Canon timeline, since that’s one of my favorites, and would be a fun one to start with. But they just announced a few new books and comics set near the beginning of the timeline, so I think I will wait for those to come out before I take a deep dive into the Star Wars Canon. But that one will definitely happen in the next year.

Instead, I’ve decided to go with something a little smaller, to kind of test the waters. And so I will be starting with the Lord of the Rings or Middle-earth timeline. This is another franchise that is near and dear to my heart, and I’ve always wanted to go through these stories in chronological order. And this will include everything I have on the timeline, including the films, animated films, and video games like Shadow of Mordor. So in the near future, you’ll see an episode about the Lord of the Rings in general, and then I’ll release an episode about the Silmarillion, which is first on the timeline.

Again, you can follow along on the app if you want to go through these stories with me, though I warn you, I’m a fast reader. Additionally, funding for this podcast is entirely made possible through Patreon. Just a dollar or two a month will get you access to exclusive updates and content, and I’ll have more information about that as this podcast develops. You can go to patreon.com/alltimelines to sign up. I greatly appreciate any help you can provide.

And that’s it! I look forward to seeing you next time when we begin our discussion of Middle-earth. Keep on reading.

    1. Possibly, though it would only be audio without any video of my face or anything. I might combine some of my episodes together and do that.
