What’s in the Forgotten Realms Chronological Reading Order?

This is the chronological reading order for the Forgotten Realms series of books and short stories. Forgotten Realms is a huge story setting. The original authors developed it for Dungeons and Dragons. Many authors contributed to this world, although Ed Greenwood and R. A. Salvatore still wrote much of it. While overlap exists between some stories, we usually place them in order based on where they end.

Now the number of books and short stories for Forgotten Realms is so massive that it’s easy to make a mistake when ordering them, so if you see anything that should be placed in another area of the timeline, please let us know. We want to create an easy-to-follow timeline for all of the Forgotten Realms media, so we welcome any help to avoid confusion. So enjoy the Forgotten Realms chronological reading order. And if you’re a fan of other tabletop literature, check out our Dragonlance reading order. Fans of the Forgotten Realms character, Drizzt Do’urden will also enjoy our Legends of Drizzt timeline.

  1. Fistandantilus Reborn should not be in this list, it would belong in the Dragon lance Lost Legends Vol 2. I think finders bane confuses stuff, as its listed as a Harpers book 15 but also linked with Lost Gods as well.

  2. The Series marked as Plague of Spells is actually the name of the first book and should instead be the series Abolethic Sovereignty

  3. Brimstone Angels and Brimstone Angels should not be listed under Legends of Neverwinter. That is a series for Drizzit, Its a bit murky when you look thru the WC data, but I think it would either be listed as “brimstone Angels” a series or Just “Neverwinter Nights”

  4. the Captive Flame, Whisper of Venom, The Spectral Blaze, The Masked Witches and Prohets of the Dead should all fall under the series name “Brotherhood of Griffon”

  5. Servant of the Shard is placed chronologically before Spine of the World but the events of Spine of the World are at least 1 year before the events of Servant of the Shard because of the sections where it talks about Morrick the Rogue, he talks about when he and Wulfgar were wrongly accused of attempting to murder Captain Duetermont and says that it was a year prior. There is a year time jump apparently from when The Silent Blade ends to when Servant of the Shard begins
